Turning Science into Impact: Meet Johannes Grillari

What does it take to turn scientific excellence into real-world innovation?

In the latest episode of our Innovation Leaders series, we introduce Johannes Grillari, Director of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Traumatology (LBI Trauma), renowned scientist, entrepreneur and mentor.

With more than 240 peer-reviewed publications and 15 patents, Johannes has built an extensive scientific career focused on cellular ageing and regeneration. At the same time, as co-founder of the biotechnology companies Evercyte and TAmiRNA, he has first-hand experience of bringing scientific knowledge beyond academia.

In our interview, Johannes reflects on why scientists and students can benefit from understanding the business and innovation side of research – and how mentoring can help them recognise opportunities and find their own path from scientific discovery towards real-world impact.

His experience reflects an important idea behind InnovPrecMed: scientific excellence is the foundation, while innovation skills, entrepreneurship and mentoring can help excellent research make an impact beyond the laboratory.
