From University Research to Forensic Intelligence: Meet Lightly
How can scientific research move beyond the laboratory and become a technology with real-world impact? Our latest Innovation Leaders video introduces Lightly, a Brno-based deep tech company developing innovative tools for rapid substance analysis and forensic intelligence.
Founded on technology originating from research at Mendel University in Brno, Lightly is developing Catcher, a portable device designed to analyse substances directly in the field. Using the company’s patented UV-Fingerprint technology, the device can generate a unique chemical fingerprint of a sample within minutes. These fingerprints can then be compared, helping uncover connections between individual samples, cases and potentially wider criminal networks.
Lightly’s ambition therefore goes beyond simply identifying a substance. By combining rapid field analysis with forensic intelligence, the company aims to provide law-enforcement and other relevant actors with new ways to identify patterns, connect cases and better understand the origin and movement of substances.
The company is also a great example of the journey from university research to commercialisation – turning scientific knowledge into a practical deep-tech solution with international potential.
